Summary: | Heavy metals in natural and technogenic ecosystems of the Central Caucasus were determined. The level of toxic impact on soils was estimated from the content of movable forms of metals in soil samples taken from the surface layer. The pH and relative content of humus were determined by wet washing. Mineralized soil and plant samples and mice were used for quantitative analysis for tungsten (W), molybdenum (Mo), and copper (Cu). Plants accumulated Mo more actively than W, although the concentration of the latter in the soil was, on average, an order of magnitude higher. Plants growing near the site of wastewater discharge from the Nalchik Hydrometallurgical Plant (NHMP) proved to be larger than plants from the background area. Females accumulated greater amounts of W and were more sensitive to its toxic effect than males. |
