Description
Summary:This article is not written with the aim of providing a definitive perspective on peer support typologies or models but rather with the intention of exchanging ideas and perspectives regarding peer support's diversification, the risks this poses to its integrity and the impact this may have on its future progression. The philosophical and operational similarities and variances between models of peer support practicing within peer and non‐peer contexts are firstly explored, followed by a discussion about the possible challenges that the absence of an exclusive definition and the immense flexibility in how peer support is defined may impact the sustainability of authentic peer support into the future. This article is written by two people with limited self‐experience of mental health difficulties but have experience of working in mental health and currently work in academia and are challenged by the heterogeneity of peer support models and values.
