description On the basis of the field investigation of oil contamination in the Tianjin tidal flat of Bohai Sea, three representative sediments are sampled in the vertical direction of the shoreline, and their major physico-chemical properties are analyzed. In addition, dynamic curves and isotherms of aqueous oil adsorption on sediments have been measured. At last, retard coefficients (R) of aqueous oil are calculated by means of columns experimental data. The studies show the equilibrium period of the adsorption is 20-24 hours, and all the adsorption isotherms are linear. The retard coefficient of sediments 1-2,1-3 and 3-1 are 1.17,1.64 and 1.75 respectively, which means aqueous oil in seawater can be adsorbed weakly by the sediment when seawater penetrates into the sediment of the tidal flats under wave and tidal action. As a result, the aqueous oil can easily migrate into the tidal flat and result oil pollution of tidal flat body.
