Description
Summary:The Papuan and southern Oriental odacanthine species Dicraspeda quadrispinosa Chaudoir is further subdivided into additional taxa which provisionally are described as new subspecies: Dicraspeda quadrispinosa krikkeni from San Cristobal Island, D. quadrispinosa vanasseni from Guadalcanal Island, D. quadrispinosa brachyspinosa from the minute Kolombangara Island, all Solomon Archipelago, and D. quadrispinosa ambonensis from Ambon Island in the Bum Archipelago. A new key is given for all described taxa of Dicraspeda quadrispinosa. In particular the Solomon Archipelago seems to be the home of a number of well differentiated taxa that exhibit divergent character evolution and are restricted to single islands. New records of some additional little known species of the genus Dicraspeda Chaudoir are communicated which considerably extend their presently recorded ranges.
