Summary:Separation of ultrafine titanium dioxide (TiO sub(2)) from aqueous suspension and its reuse using cross-flow ultrafiltration (CFU), are investigated. A circulating pump is used to pressurize the wastewater containing TiO sub(2) particle and to circulate it through the ultrafiltration membrane. In general, permeate flux in membrane filtration processes decreases with time as the retained matters accumulate on membrane surface and form a filter cake and the thickness of the cake layer continually grows with time until an equilibrium thickness is reached. The results indicate that the flux level is restricted by not only the cake height also the cake voidage. It is found that the photocatalytic activity of TiO sub(2) decreases after coagulation process.
