Summary: | One hundred and twenty three species of water mites of the genus Atractides are known from Europe, 72 from Asia, 27 from North America, 33 from Central and South-Central America and 54 from Africa (Gerecke 2003). Atractides dentipalpis (Walter, 1935) can be reported here for the first time from Turkey. It is only the second record of this species since its original description. The male is described for the first time. It was found in samples of moss collected from the surface of stones, which were washed under pressured tap water. The water mites were then collected in containers and fixed in Koenike liquid. The body parts were dissected and mounted on slides (Cook 1974). |
