Summary: | Recent reports suggest oncologic equivalence between partial and radical nephrectomy for T1b and T2 renal cell carcinoma, with improved renal functional outcomes for partial nephrectomy. In this issue of Cancer, Ristau and colleagues provide further understanding of the limitations of nephron preservation in larger masses; and, ultimately, a randomized clinical trial may provide the most efficacious means of answering continued controversies and providing insight.
