Furthermore, the absolute configuration of the enantiomers of both cathinones was determined for the first time by electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectroscopy, with the aid of theoretical calculations, as (+)‑(S) and (−)‑(R)-pentedrone, and (−)‑(S) and (+)‑(R)‑methylone. •Multi-milligram enantioresolution of pentedrone and methylone was reported for the first time.•Overall recovery of 72% and 80% were achieved for pentedrone and methylone enantiomers.•Enantiomeric ratios higher than 98% were obtained.•Absolute configuration was established for the first time.•Combined ECD spectroscopy and ECD spectral simulation were used.
