Description
Summary:Interactive Vaulting (IV) is a specialty area of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association. IV is a process that engages participants in horsemanship activities and movements around, on, and off the horse or barrel, as well as gymnastic positions on the back of the moving horse. It is an exciting! area as participants demonstrate their balance and strength through vaulting exercises and then their creativity, memory, and teamwork through interactive activities. Different from competitive vaulting, IV focuses on activities which promote interaction between the horse and vaulter, as well as interaction between students in the vaulting lesson. IV lessons typically include warm-up exercises, mounted activities, and activities on a stationary barrel. Activities can be tailored for each participant while they are mounted, and group activities are chosen based on the needs of each individual class. Many IV sessions have more than three students, and the activities vary based on the number of students, as well as their goals. A wide variety of individuals with disabilities, including I learning, social, emotional, cognitive, or physical impairments I can benefit from IV. Participants meet criteria to join a class I if they are able to follow safety instructions, as well as walk I unassisted.
