Summary: | Stable oxygen and hydrogen isotope values of archived precipitation samples from the National Atmospheric Deposition Program monitoring station in the Pawnee Grasslands, northeastern Colorado, were measured for the period 1994 98. The aim was the determine the local meteoric waterline and the local relationship between the oxygen ratios of precipitation and air temperature ( delta -T). The delta super(18)O and delta super(2)H analyses were made at the Environmental Isotope Laboratory at the University of Waterloo, ON, Canada. The isotopic attributes of the precipitation were found to be similar to those from other mid-continental regions, with a strong isotopic enrichment between winter and summer precipitation and a strong delta super(18)O T correlation. The local meteoric waterline, however, was slightly below the global meteoric waterline for heavier samples, and yearly delta super(18)O and delta super(2)H means were more depleted than those at nearby stations. The results were consistent with groundwater and surface-water isotope data in the region. |
