Summary: | The ability of a dual ozone-photocatalysis treatment to accelerate biodegradation of organic pollutants in bleached kraft mill effluents was investigated. Reductions in total organic carbon (TOC), chemical oxygen demand (COD), adsorbable organic halogen (AOX) and colour were achieved by the sequential treatments of photocatalysis and ozonation. The simultaneous application of photocatalysis and ozonation had a synergistic effect and produced similar results in less than half the reaction time. |
