As luck would have it, the Rallye San Remo in Italy was happening in mid-September, and Hakkinen could just drive over from his home in Monaco. They met in private and reassured one another that this was a serious deal, though more for a big thrill and positive publicity than as a plan to create Hakkinen's new career.
