Summary: | A new type of impact damper, consisting of a bed of granular materials moving in a container fixed to a primary vibrating system, is described. The problem is to determine the characteristics of the damper for reducing the vibration of a single degree-of-freedom system when the driving force is a simple harmonic. This report deals with the case when the damper is applied to a horizontal vibrating system. Models were tested and theoretical analyses were developed to find the periodic solutions for the impact oscillations of a mass in a container. |
