Summary: | On the other hand, Handel's comical-- tragical-pastoral entertainment, Acis and Galatea, was a charming balance of innocence and sophistication in Mark Lamos's production. The story of the title characters' ill-fated romance, derived from Ovid by librettists John Gay, Alexander Pope, John Hughes and John Dryden, is played out in a stylized representation of the Glimmerglass countryside (decor by Paul Steinberg) and in contemporary summer sportswear designed by Constance Hoffman. |
