Description
Summary:The result of computer technology evolution is that the electronic document has developed a richer set of features than the paper document and that computer networks are developing as a better way of distributing information than paper-based mail systems. Though the paperless office is still an oxymoron, the electronic movement of electronic documents is quickly becoming the basis of very important business applications. Among the related technologies that will grow in popularity and usage are electronic forms technologies, imaging, document management systems, and workflow automation products. However, for an electronic document to be as portable as its paper counterpart, common formats must be available to allow an electronic document to transcend the boundaries of a single application or platform. Nevertheless, such standards are being addressed too slowly and in too many different ways.
