Summary: | Family screening was also done (figure) and all affected family members—the patient's father, two elder sisters, and the patient's son—had high-resolution CT scans of the thorax and MRIs of the kidneys. The cysts in BHD syndrome have several characteristics that may help distinguish them from other causes of diffuse cystic lung disease: they are basal predominant, thin-walled cysts, lentiform in shape and with a predilection for the subpleural region. In all patients presenting with a pneumothorax, it is crucial to ask about family history and consider doing a high-resolution CT scan of the thorax. |
