Summary: | In this paper, the existence of analytical solution for the boundary between slip and adhesion zones in the contact patch of steady state rolling with pure spin is strictly proofed, and formulae to determine the boundary is obtained through detailed mathematical derivations. Also the formulae are utilized to analyse two examples of rolling contact under pure spin, in which different amount of spin and a/b of 0.5 and 2.0 are taken into consideration and the theoretical results are compared with numerical computations by Kalker's FASTSIM. The theoretical solution for the boundary between slip and adhesion zones in the contact patch from the derived formulae is in good agreement with the numerical solution obtained by using FASTSIM. 1.
