Development of an optically pumped molecular laser

Strong laser action in methyl alcohol has been achieved on several lines in the Submillimeter wavelength range, using a cylindrical metal tube as a low-loss waveguide resonator. Output powers up to 10mW were obtained; sufficient to drive a point contact diode.
