Description
Summary:The production, development and distribution of electrolytic capacitors are discussed. The original capacitors were Al foil with thin dielectric oxide films formed electrochemically. The capacitance was enhanced by chemical etching. Other early developments were the Ta foil and liquid electrolyte sintered pellet types. The Ta solid electrolyte capacitor is a later development that accounts for two-thirds of the present electrolytic capacitor production. Present research is directed toward solid Al capacitors, Nb electrolytic and Ta thin film capacitors. 112 ref.--H.B.C.
