Summary:The paper contains the results of an experimental study on the ignition of fine aluminium wires subjected to programmed electrical heating in a flow of gaseous oxidant. The data obtained are used for critical evaluation of existing theories on the mechanism of aluminium ignition, as well as for finding the kinetic parameters of the reaction between aluminium and oxygen at temperatures T = 1600 to 2000 °C.
