Summary:Bolton has been transformed over the past 25 years and is now a dynamic town with a mixed and vibrant community. The context for planning in Bolton is set by the recently published community strategy, Clear Vision, Bright Future. This sets the main aim as improving the most deprived areas of the borough and raising the quality of life for the most disadvantaged people. Some of the key developments and projects for the future include: 1. A town centre strategy to build on and enhance the current centre. 2 Development of an economic development zone in the western part of the borough and a business innovation zone around the south of the town centre. 3. Enhancement of the urban design capability of the department through the appointment of specialised officers and further guidance and training on the importance of design in the built environment.
