Is the Shell-Model Concept Relevant for the Nuclear Interior?

The 3s radial wave function R (r ) has been determined by electron scattering from exp 206 Pb and exp 205 Tl. The shape of R (r ) in the central region of the nucleus is used to test the validity of the independent-particle shell model at large nuclear density. 15 ref.--AA
