Summary:The thermal expansion coefficients of a number of phenacites at temperatures at and above the Debye temperature are analyzed in terms of the thermal Gruneisen parameter gamma. The phenacites have gamma values intermediate between adamantine crystals and quartz. Values of gamma between 0.3 and 0.7 are found. A useful correlation exists between gamma and the average volume per anion bond W. Values of gamma approaching zero occur for sufficiently large values of W.
