Summary: | Axial T1 weighted MRI of the brain with intravenous gadolinium contrast medium shows a heterogeneous rim enhancing lesion (red arrow) at the left frontal lobe, with mixed enhancing solid and hypointense cystic components (white arrow) Definitive diagnosis is by histological assessment. Depending on tumour location, patients may have motor, speech, and/or cognitive impairment, focal neurological deficit, epilepsy, and/or features of high intracranial pressure.6 Patients may experience reduced functional independence and autonomy in daily living, fatigue, depression, and change in personality, emotion, or behaviour.67 3. Offer multidisciplinary management to relieve symptoms, improve function, survival, and quality of life; and assist with self care, financial management, and transportation.8 Consider total resection, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and low intensity alternating electrical field therapy on a case-by-case basis.91011 Learning point Typically, gliomas manifest as solitary lesions and brain metastasis as multiple lesions. |
