Summary:Ion-plated hard and wear-resistant TiN coatings were applied in vane pumps and tested according to standardized tests ( DIN 51389 and IP 281/77). A wear reduction by up to a factor of 400 for the coated parts was observed and the uncoated counterparts also showed a decrease in wear by up to a factor of 60. These significant results demonstrate that the application of hard and wear-resistant coatings by ion plating is not limited to tools; there exists a wide range of applications in the field of engineering parts and systems.
