Summary: | After institutional review board approval and the requirement for informed consent were waived, we searched for hepatic resections in which epidural analgesia was utilized from 2003 to 2012. Minimizing epidural bleeding risk during epidural analgesia for hepatic resection is likely based on multiple factors, including appropriate patient selection, such as exclusion of patients with pre-existing coagulopathy or spinal abnormality such as spinal stenosis, optimal timing of needle placement/catheter removal, and perioperative management. Written informed consent was waived by IRB.Ethics approval We received approval from the Institutional Review Board of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (protocol DR09-0103) to conduct this retrospective analysis.Declaration of competing interest None. |
