Liquid Phase Epitaxy of Hg sub 1--x Cd sub x Te

Experiments are described which show that thin films of Hg sub 1--x Cd sub x Te with 0.2 < x < 0.4 can be grown from Te rich solution at atmospheric pressure, open tube, horizontal slider LPE. Films produced are of uniform thickness, 15 mu m thick, 2 cm by 3 cm in area, have a surface defect d...

Description
Summary:Experiments are described which show that thin films of Hg sub 1--x Cd sub x Te with 0.2 < x < 0.4 can be grown from Te rich solution at atmospheric pressure, open tube, horizontal slider LPE. Films produced are of uniform thickness, 15 mu m thick, 2 cm by 3 cm in area, have a surface defect density < 30 cm exp --2 and surface ripples < 0.4 mu m in height. The compostion of the film is uniform and are heavily p-type as grown. 7 ref.--R.E.
