Summary:Static displacements in crystal lattices due to lattice defects give to an elastic contribution to scattering, namely Huang diffuse scattering (HDS). Measurements of Huang diffuse neutron scattering on inter niobium contg. interstitially dissolved deuterium show that the strength and symmetry of the distortion field around lattice defects can be determined by HDS and that the method is feasible with neutrons. The results are with those of X-ray experiments, and the advantages of employing neutrons are discussed. 10 ref.--R.B.
