Summary: | A computer model has been developed capable of providing a detailed representation of the propagation of ultrasound in complex materials containing highly textured regions. The model, which is based on a ray-tracing approach, is described and some of the results obtained to date are presented. The impetus to the work has been that of providing a description of ultrasonic behaviour in austenitic structures, but the model could be used for any mixture of isotropic and orthotropic materials. |
