Summary: | Difference-equation methods are developed for solving the equation of transfer in media with discontinuities in their physical properties. These should prove useful in calculating the radiation field in dynamical atmospheres having shocks. Two examples with thermal or scattering source functions, for which exact solutions can be obtained, are used to evaluate the accuracy of the techniques, which prove quite satisfactory. |
