Summary:A Schroedinger equation with a power nonlinearity is solved using a finite-difference scheme which satisfies discrete analogs of the conservation laws. A special case of the equation considered is currently used to model the propagation of a laser beam in a plasma. The proposed method is illustrated by numerical results which concern in particular the formation and propagation of solitons in the one-dimensional case.
