Description
Summary:Looking back, 80 years ago (we celebrate that anniversary in June) the first headline on the first story in the first issue of the fledgling weekly newsletter The Salt Water Sportsman was entitled simply "The Striped Bass." Often underappreciated is the fact that striped bass is an anadromous fish, feeding in salt water and running up rivers to spawn in fresh water. Currently, our East Coast striped bass make the most of their remaining major spawning grounds: the tributaries of Chesapeake Bay, upper Delaware Bay and the Delaware River, as well as the Hudson River in New York and the Miramichi River in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence. [...]the cadre of striper chasers remains resolute in both their dedication to this remarkable sport fish and as an active voice, a constituency, for the conservation and health of the striped bass stocks and recreational fishery.
