On the differential scattering cross-section in high voltage electron microscopy
Using Lenz single scattering theory, the differential elastic, inelastic and total scattering cross-sections per unit solid angle have been computed for C, Ag and Au for electron energies 100 kV and 1 MV for scattering angles up to 30 mrad. It has been shown that the differential total cross-section...

Summary: | Using Lenz single scattering theory, the differential elastic, inelastic and total scattering cross-sections per unit solid angle have been computed for C, Ag and Au for electron energies 100 kV and 1 MV for scattering angles up to 30 mrad. It has been shown that the differential total cross-sections for the heavy elements Ag and Au are greater at the higher voltage compared to those at 0.1 MV, over a limited angular range. This is quite different from that for the light element C. The possibility of the experimental detection of this characteristic difference has been outlined. |
