Description
Summary:By CESR we have measured the spin susceptibility of small Mg particles with average sizes ranging between ten and a few hundred Å, dispersed in a solid Xe matrix. At high temperature the susceptibility is independent of T in agreement with the law of Pauli. At low temperature and for particles of diameter smaller than 30 Å, one observes an increase of the susceptibility as Kubo predicted for particles with an even number of conduction electrons. However the agreement is only qualitative since the increase of the susceptibility which is observed experimentally is about twice calculated by Kubo.
