Description
Summary:In an earlier paper, an analytic solution to a Marshak wave problem was presented, together with numerical results. The problem corresponds to radiation incident upon an initially cold halfspace of material. In the present paper, we present additional numerical results based upon this solution which should be useful in validating time-dependent radiative transfer codes. These results are also compared with two approximate radiative transfer descriptions often used in practice. The inadequacy of these approximations for early times is an indication of the importance of applying the proper temperature-jump boundary condition. Numerical results for the temperature jump indicate that it decreases monotonically as time increases.
