Summary: | A parallel computer may be programmed through the provision of either a parallelizing compiler or a parallel programming language; attention is presently given to the latter. The languages in question are broadly characterizable as ALGOL-based, such as ADA and LINDA, parallel LISPs, such as LULTILISP and the logic language 'Concurrent PROLOG', and parallel functional languages, of which PARALFL is typical. It is noted, in light of experience gained during the development of LINDA, that parallel programming as presently conceived is not fundamentally more difficult than conventional programming.
