Mechanical damage introduced into aluminum monocrystals during TEM thin-foil preparation

The mechanical damage produced in 99.999Al by the procedures used for preparing TEM specimens was evaluated. The damage was manifested by increased dislocation density. The results suggest that some damage is introduced at the center of specimens during grinding. No mechanical damage was found as a...

Description
Summary:The mechanical damage produced in 99.999Al by the procedures used for preparing TEM specimens was evaluated. The damage was manifested by increased dislocation density. The results suggest that some damage is introduced at the center of specimens during grinding. No mechanical damage was found as a result of spark cutting but mechanically punched specimens revealed considerable damage. 5 ref.--C.J.H.(UK/US).
