Summary:The paper presents the main regularities of temperature gradient zone melting (TGZM). Theoretical and experimental studies of kinetics and stability of the process and the redistribution of impurities and the main components of solid solutions in TGZM are reviewed. Special attention is paid to the application of the method to growing perfect crystals, epitaxial layers of semiconductor, electrically heterogeneous structures, as well as to physico-chemical investigations.
