Magnetoelastic bifurcation in an amorphous ribbon

The experimental magnetic-field driven buckling of a highly-magnetoelastic amorphous ribbon is shown. A finite-strain nonlinear magnetoelastic theory is presented and a field dependent bifurcation parameter is derived. Values of the parameter are shown to be in fair agreement with the data.
