Summary: | The United States is facing a national crisis related to increasing rates of maternal morbidity and mortality. Over the past few years, significant focus has been turned to initiatives that aim to address maternal morbidity and mortality rates. In parallel, the United States has seen a significant increase in restrictive abortion access state laws. The link between abortion restrictions and worsening maternal outcomes has been proposed. This review article outlines the national crisis of maternal morbidity and mortality, the potential role of limiting abortion access in this crisis, and the significant racial, socioeconomic, and geographical disparities that exist. |
