Summary: | A critical review was made of the usual methods employed to produce cuprous oxide. The techniques can be classified in three groups: those which comprise dry processes; those which imply the reduction of Cu(II) solutions by several agents; and those which involve electrochemical oxidation of Cu. Only the last two methods are studied. Both techniques take into account different experimental variables such as concentration of chemical reagents, working temp., washing of the precipitate, etc. In the electrolytic process the optimum current density for the anodic and cathodic processes is also considered. The main object is to optimize techniques to reduce costs and especially to obtain a stable final product. 13 ref.--AA |
