Summary: | A new technique in photoacoustic microscopy is described in which a line scan photoacoustic image is displayed directly on an oscilloscope screen and can be observed to change in real time. The new method differs from conventional photoacoustic microscopy in that the beam position is modulated rather than the beam intensity, so that the spatial distribution of sample defects is mapped into the time domain. The result is a photoacoustic line scan image quite similar to that obtained in the conventional way, but acquired in a time measured in milliseconds rather than minutes. |
