Description
Summary:This note provides the experimental results of a study involving the application of an electric field to a premixed methane-air flame. The electric field was produced with the aid of a high-voltage dc power supply. The obtained results indicate that, under suitable conditions with respect to the electrode configuration, electric fields can be employed as a suitable technique in controlling the combustion process. The effects of longitudinal and transverse electric fields on the blow-off limits of a methane-air flame were studied. It is found that as a result of an application of suitable electric fields, burners can be operated at substantially leaner conditions than those possible under normal conditions. The possibility of an employment of such leaner conditions can result in better fuel utilization efficiency.
