Summary: | We developed a rapid multiplex PCR assay available in bedside for the simultaneous detection of Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Chlamydia trachomatis, which enables diagnosis in less than 30 minutes. In this study, we validated the clinical utility of this assay including its sensitivity and specificity for NG and CT detection.
•NAATs are currently used for detecting NG and CT from clinical samples.•Several days are needed to obtain results with NAATs.•Rapid microbial detection assays are needed for proper antimicrobial selection.•Rapid multiplex PCR for detecting NG and CT requires less than 30 minutes.•This assay enables rapid diagnosis and the administration of proper antibiotics. |
