Summary: | A liquid--liquid extraction and spectrophotometric method is described for the determination of trace amounts of zinc. Zinc is extracted at p H 8.0 with N-phenylcinnamohydroxamic acid and with stearylamine and determined spectrophotometrically after the addition of 1-(2-pyridylazo)-2-naphthol. Beer's law is obeyed over the range 0.05-1.92 ppm at 550 nm and 0.04-1.90 ppm at 550 nm with molar absorptivities of 5 x 10 exp 4 and 5.8 x 10 exp 4 l/mol cm, respectively. The effects of diverse ions are discussed. The method was applied to the determination of zinc in high-purity alloy samples. 27 ref.--AA |
