Description
Summary:Pituitary metastases (PM) from differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) are rare. Various case series and case reports in the past suggest that symptoms of PM from DTC correspond to parasellar lesions that affect adjacent nerves, rather than intrasellar lesions that cause endocrinologic disorders such as diabetes insipidus. This case report describes the occurrence of PM in a patient with a history of papillary thyroid carcinoma that had previously recurred in cervical lymph nodes. The relevant literature is reviewed, and a discussion of the salient points of the case is provided. •Pituitary metastases from thyroid carcinoma are rare.•Pituitary metastases from thyroid carcinoma may present with symptoms of mass effect on cranial nerves.•Pituitary metastases from thyroid carcinoma may be detected with I-131 or FDG-PET.
