CCD star images: On the determination of Moffat’s PSF shape parameters
The problem of obtaining simultaneous estimates of Moffat's (1969) point spread function (PSF) shape parameters, the off-centering parameter, and the background level in CCD star images is considered. An approximate means of determining all the parameters except off-centering is presented. It i...

Summary: | The problem of obtaining simultaneous estimates of Moffat's (1969) point spread function (PSF) shape parameters, the off-centering parameter, and the background level in CCD star images is considered. An approximate means of determining all the parameters except off-centering is presented. It is noted that Moffat's PSF model is a softened power law belonging to the family of modified King (1971) and Hubble models. An integral equation making it possible to convolve a spherical source with Moffat's PSF has been obtained and is applied to a multi-Gaussian convolution. (R.R.) |
