Description
Summary:The literature has documented many of the challenges investigators face enrolling diverse populations in dementia research and clinical trials (Alzheimer's Association, 2016; Gilmore-Bykovskyi et al., 2019); however, the impact of this underrepresentation on knowledge of disease mechanisms, drug efficacy, and safety warrants continued and concerted efforts in this regard. The authors highlight the ways in which the results are consistent with other findings that Mexican American individuals have a similar risk profile to whites in the United States but that other Latino groups, particularly Caribbean Latinos, have a higher risk of MCI than whites. The authors suggest possible protective factors for Mexican American individuals including different levels of discrimination, acculturation, social support, or genetic factors.
