Variations of magnetic aftereffect and positron lifetime in an amorphous ferromagnetic alloy annealed at different temperatures

The changes of magnetic permeability aftereffect effect and positron lifetime were measured at room temp. on the amorphous alloy Fe sub 67 Co sub 18 B sub 14 Si sub 1 after annealing at temp. in the range 100-375 deg C. Description
Summary:The changes of magnetic permeability aftereffect effect and positron lifetime were measured at room temp. on the amorphous alloy Fe sub 67 Co sub 18 B sub 14 Si sub 1 after annealing at temp. in the range 100-375 deg C. After high-temp. treatments, a strong reduction (up to 90%) of the magnetic aftereffect was observed, while the positron lifetime was found to be reduced to approx 10% of the difference between the values typical of amorphous and crystalline metals, respectively. The present results suggest that a condition for a high value of the room temp. magnetic aftereffect is the presence, in as cast ribbons, of open spaces favoring the mobility of anisotropic defects interacting with the magnetization. This microscopic free-volume is partially suppressed by annealing, reasonably explaining the strong reduction of the aftereffect. 24 ref.--AA
