Effect of socket (bell mouth) and end seal of butt joints on load bearing ability of ceramic pipes
The stress and strain distribution in pipes loaded uniformly along their length was studied. Pipes with and without sockets were compared. The strength of pipes decreases in the absence of sockets (bell mouths). Caulking has a positive effect on the redistribution of stresses in the walls. 2 refs.
